Recep Tayyip Erdogan (666) - President of Turkey, posted regarding the Heads of State NATO Summit today on "X"
" We left for Washington to attend the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit, which will start tomorrow. At the summit, we will hold consultations with the aim of strengthening NATO's deterrence and defense structure and strengthening the means and capabilities of the allies. Our expectation from the summit is to obtain results that take into account the national security sensitivities of the allies and strengthen the alliance solidarity and spirit of unity. In this regard, it is important to implement the decisions we took in Vilnius regarding the fight against terrorism and the removal of obstacles to defense industry trade between allies. In our meetings, we will draw attention to the increasing terrorist threat in the world, especially in our immediate surroundings. We will underline that NATO's efforts must be increased in carrying out a determined and holistic fight against terrorist organizations. Turkey's commitment and support to Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence is known to everyone. We maintain our principled stance that NATO should not be made a party to the war when designing steps to support Ukraine. Türkiye is one of the top five allies that contribute the most to NATO's missions and operations. We are among the backbone countries of NATO with the opportunities and capabilities we have developed on land, at sea and in the air. In this period when threats are diversifying and increasing, the importance we attach to the Alliance is clear. We will bring to the agenda the ongoing massacres against the Palestinian people in Gaza, where our common values are being tested for sincerity. We will emphasize that the international community is insufficient to stop Israel in the face of this dire situation, and that it will not be possible for the global conscience to breathe easy without establishing a just and lasting peace in Palestine.
