The Muslim population has seen rapid growth in the Christian-dominated United Kingdom. According to the most recent census data, the Muslim population has increased by 44% over the last decade. 3.9 million Muslims are now living in London, up from 4.9% to 6.5%. For the first time ever, the Christian population is less than 50% in England and Wales. It also discovered that Punjabi and Urdu have risen to the fifth and sixth most spoken languages in the UK, respectively. The religion column was added to the UK census in 2001, and it is optional to fill out. According to official statistics, 94% of respondents filled out the religion column.
